The two-week (80 h) CCWinter Program provides a combination of intense research and professional development opportunities to help community college students develop a sense of community, competence and autonomy in relationship to a first scientific research experience, and kindle their interest in participating in a summer research internship prior to transferring to a four-year university. The program includes: (1) a Scientific Research Project (80% time) that provides an engaging opportunity for students to become familiar with basic scientific procedures (i.e. wet lab skills, data analysis and protocol design), gain exposure to teamwork/mentor situations, improve critical thinking, and develop written/oral communication skills; (2) a Professional Identity Development Component (20% time) that includes discussions on career opportunities/challenges and team-confidence building activities to promote the development of teamwork/collaboration skills and build a supportive community.

PROGRAM DETAILS
Duration: Two weeks during the winter. Monday through Friday.
Program’s Location: 2700 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817, Oak Park Building, CBST Ed Room.
Who can apply: All CA community college students intending to transfer to UC Davis in the Fall 2013 (Not open for freshmen and students without college GPA). US citizens or Permanent Residents. Students from underserved and/or disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Home institutions: Community Colleges in California.
Intended Majors: Biochemical or Biomedical Engineering; Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS
1) On-line Application Form. You will need the following information to complete the form: Cumulative
GPA; Last GPA; Science and Math GPA; number of Science, Engineering and
Math classes taken until now; list of the classes you are enrolled
in for Fall 2012; 4 year institutions you will apply to transfer to. To apply click HERE (NOW CLOSED)
2) Upload your Resume (2 pages maximum) and Personal Statement (2 pages maximum, Instructions to Write a Personal Statement)- Save the documents in separate files and upload them in the system.
3) One Letter of recommendation. Contact your recommender in advance to request his/her support. Provide the name and contact information of your recommender when requested by the system. The system will automatically contact the person and send instructions about writing and uploading the letter. You can also see the instructions at Letter of Recommendation - Instructions. You will be notified when the letter has been uploaded.
4) Upload your Unofficial Undergraduate Transcript
5) Send a current Official Undergraduate Transcript to the below address. Official transcripts must be received by the deadline.
