CBST Graduate Student Group

The CBST Graduate Student group at UC Davis represents a diverse student body from various disciplines of study, all sharing a common theme interest of biophotonics.  Each graduate student is mentored by a CBST faculty member–researcher.  CBST graduate students and mentors are from departments that include Applied Science, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, and Physics. UC Davis offers a number of courses that help develop biophotonics knowledge and proficiency, including the recently established Designated Emphasis (DE) in Biophotonics.  The DE identifies a doctorate recipient as having an emphasis in Biophotonics within his or her individual Ph.D. program. The CBST Graduate Student group has three main branches, Education, Knowledge Transfer, and Science & Technology.  The Education branch strives to advance the CBST academic prospects and opportunities via recruitment activities, such as SACNAS and AISES, and annual events, such as the UC Davis Picnic Day.  In addition, graduate students are given the chance to mentor summer interns who are accepted on a competitive basis into the CBST Intern Program.  The Knowledge Transfer branch seeks to incorporate collaboration from other areas, such as industry or business, to augment the academic foundation.  The science & Technology branch creates opportunity for students to gain exposure to various perspectives of the many different fields that encompass Biophotonics.
