How to apply

ELIGIBILITY

  • Who can apply: Undergraduate students, sophomores and juniors preferred (only US citizens or Permanent Residents)
  • Home institutions: 2 or 4-year institutions around the country
  • Majors: Chemical, Biochemical or Biomedical Engineering; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related.
  • G.P.A.: 2.8 or above

DATES and DEADLINES

  • Receiving  applications: Jan 1 to Feb 27, 2009
  • DEADLINE:   All the components of the application package should be received by

Feb 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM PST

  • Award Notification:  March 31, 2009
  • 8-week program:  June 15 to August 7, 2009 (With mentor's approval, internships can be extended up to 4 additional weeks).


APPLICATION PACKAGE

A complete application packages must include the following items:

1.  On-line Application Form. You will need the following  information to complete the form: Cumulative GPA; Last GPA; Science and Math GPA; number of Science, Engineering and Math classes taken until now; the list of the classes you are enrolled in for  Spring 08'; FAFSA information (if applies); Researcher/Mentor you prefer to work with (Please review Areas or Research and identify three that you feel best match your interests).

2.  Résumé.  A few sample categories that you may want to include: Education, Professional Experience,  Lab/Technical Skills, Honors/Awards/Scholarships, Extracurricular Activities (academic, community, volunteering, etc).

3.   Personal Statement
The personal statement helps us to review your interests and to determine your motivation for applying for the internship. It should be clear and easy to read. We should be able to view a synopsis of your background (highlight relevant career, academic and civic accomplishments) and a summary of where you wish to be in the future. 4.    Two letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are requested; please download the instructions and give it to your recommenders (Letter of Recommendation). The recommender may send the letter directly to the address provided below or may return the letter to you in a sealed envelope for inclusion with other application materials.

5.    A current Official Undergraduate Transcript.
