Verkman, of UCSF, will discuss diffusion in cells and extracellular compartments, utilizing fluorescence recovery after photobleaching, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and single particle tracking methods. New methodology developments will be described.
Within cells, I will focus on diffusion of various macromolecules in cytoplasm and in the mitochondrial matrix, as well as receptor diffusion in the plasma membrane. Outside of cells, I will describe measurements of diffusion in the extracellular space in brain and tumors.
