Knowledge Transfer

by Felix R Morio last modified 06/19/2009 10:11

The Knowledge Transfer group seeks to catalyze the rapid growth of biophotonics as a new technology sector, effectively engage with industrial partners to develop new products, supply the intellectual capital to advance the field of biophotonics, and promote the growth of new companies.

This program plays a central role in the Center’s activities by facilitating interaction with corporate scientists, clinicians and other researchers, to catalyze the development of innovative biophotonics-based technologies.  Further, we work with companies, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and others with an interest in transferring CBST technologies into the private sector where it can be most effective in helping clinicians care for patients and researchers make important discoveries.

We actively facilitate a variety of engagement opportunities between CBST and other organizations, such as:

  • Joint development of technology
    • Collaborative grants with industry: SBIR/STTR, NSF GOALI (http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=13706), NIH, etc
    • Matching grants: UC Discovery (www.ucdiscoverygrant.org)
    • Sponsored research
  • Technology transfer
  • Student professional development for careers in academia, established industry, and entrepreneurial ventures
  • Student scholarships, fellowships and internships
  • Visiting scientists
  • Gifts, endowments, event sponsorship (seminars, workshops, symposia, etc)
  • Scientific outreach at national and international conferences
  • Web-based resources and newsletters
